Biography
JZO was founded in 2014 by Olamide Akindeinde and Joseph O. Ike, a design partnership shaped by backgrounds outside of fashion and a shared interest in rethinking how Nigerian clothing is made and read. Working across womenswear and menswear, the label approaches ready-to-wear as a site for storytelling—using garments to explore identity, memory, and contemporary life.
Textile development sits at the centre of the practice. Fabrics are produced using locally sourced cotton from northern Nigeria, often hand-dyed with natural pigments and finished through collaboration with regional artisans skilled in embroidery and surface work. These processes lend each piece a distinct material character, where variations in tone and texture are part of the design rather than incidental.
JZO’s work has drawn international attention, including recognition from André Leon Talley, who featured the brand in his memoir. Through its emphasis on craft and narrative, the label continues to build a body of work grounded in both experimentation and tradition.
