  • Insider Notes

    • In a bid to reduce waste, Nigerian label NKWO have upcycled leftover materials and end-of-line fabrics to create this Omo Shirt Dress. The loose-fit silhouette is assembled from hand-dyed cotton panels and undulating ruffles sewn to a transparent tulle base. It features a neat round neck, long sleeves, and a drop-waist asymmetric skirt. Temper the sheerness with tonal undergarments and style it with sharp mules or strappy sandals, depending on the occasion.

Nigeria

Sustainable brand NKWO relaunched in 2012 in Nigeria, with a focus on the preservation of traditional craft while curbing the damaging effects of textile waste. Each ready-to-wear piece is crafted using traditional West African weaving, beading, hand-dyeing and embroidery. The designer created her own fabric—using a modern strip weaving technique—dubbed “Dakala.” This hand-loomed upcycled fabric has a distinctively rich feel and is featured in each collection.
