Biography
Lalela Scarf is structured around a simple exchange: artwork becomes object, and object sustains education. Founded in 2010 by Andrea Kerzner in South Africa, the accessories label produces scarves that translate original drawings by students in under-resourced communities into wearable pieces.
Each design begins with a child’s artwork, carrying individual narratives that are preserved through print and accompanied by a story tag identifying its maker. These works are transferred onto materials such as silk, wool, and cotton blends, allowing the imagery to move beyond the classroom and into circulation. The scarves function not only as accessories, but as conduits—linking creative expression to a wider audience.
All profits from Lalela Scarf are directed back into Lalela, the non-profit arts education programme it was created to support. Through this model, the brand sustains a cycle in which making, storytelling, and access to education remain closely connected.
